Yuvraj Singh battling cancer, undergoing chemotherapy in US

Yuvraj Singh is suffering from cancer and is undergoing "chemotherapy" in the US, confirmed his physiotherapist Jatin Choudhary on Sunday.

The star allrounder's physio Jatin Choudhary told Headlines Today that Yuvraj is suffering from cancer, which was detected in October and is currently undergoing treatment at the Cancer Institute in Boston.

Choudhary also said, the disease is in it's first stage and the chemotherapy treatment will continue till March and the star player is expected to be fit by May this year.

However, there was no confirmation from his family as his father Yograj has refused to speak to reporters on about his son's illness.

It was on November 26 last year that Yuvraj's mother, Shabnam, announced that he had a "non-malignant tumour" in his left lung. Also, that he'd been battling it for months.

Meanwhile, a source close to the BCCI admitted that Yuvraj Singh undergoing "chemotherapy" in the US.

Yuvraj was expected to be fit for the T20 Internationals and the tri-series in Australia, but he made himself unavailable in the lead-up to the January 15 selection and later he even opted out of the Indian Premier League.

But as things panned out, his team owners, the Sahara Pune Warriors too decided to stay away from the IPL auction for the fifth season that was conducted in Bangalore on Saturday.

Sahara even withdrew as the sponsors of Team India, following their stand off with the BCCI.

The Sahara Pune Warriors had requested BCCI to consider Yuvraj's illness and allowed them to add his price ($1.8 million) into their auction purse ($1.6 million) for the February 4 auctions for the IPL. But BCCI rejected the request citing inability to "vary the Player Regulations".

Apparently discounts were made in the last Champions League for Mumbai Indians, who were hit by several withdrawals due to injury and allowed to field five foreign players instead of four. Sahara felt that this "one-sided emotional relationship can't be dragged any further" and withdrew their sponsorship from "all cricket under BCCI".

Sahara, who have been sponsoring Indian team for 11 years, decided to pay his full fee for the year though he has already been ruled out. "Yuvraj Singh, who is truly like one of our family members, is quite unfortunately, passing through a bad phase , undergoing treatment for critical illness, overseas," Sahara chief Sushanto Roy said on Saturday
