Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 100 acres of land to the Film Nagar society in the upfront Jubilee Hills area of the capital, to facilitate housing for film personalities to make the industry shift from the then Madras. However, some key men of the society had indulged in irregularities and had snatched several housing plots in benami names.
It is because of these scammers that noted film personalities like lyricist Veturi Sundara Rama Murty had not got plots. As family members of Murali Mohan and Rama Naidu hold several plots in Film Nagar, doubts are being expressed that these two were also among the scammers.
It is now learnt that the state government has taken this issue seriously and is thinking of abolishing the Film Nagar society. It is learnt that the government would appoint two committees and take a decision on abolition after the committees submit reports.
It is reliably learnt that the department of cooperation has already issued notice to the society to show reasons why it should not be abolished.
